Blood sugar reading before eating: 113-114
This reading of 113-114 was basically a “fasting” reading. After getting home from work, I walked my dog Terry and then went to the Eastern medicine clinic for a refresher on my circulation, as per my postherpetic neuralgia regimen. I didn’t eat until 9 pm.
The postherpetic neuralgia is actually close to being a thing of the past (!!), so this visit was really mostly to say goodbye to Dr. Mom.
Oh, and I also got a couple more blood sugar monitors. Sort of just for fun, but also to feel better about accuracy.

Blood sugar reading after eating: 215-226

These readings were about an hour after I finished my kimchi stew.
I gotta say, this one surprised me. This food came from the same restaurant where that lady always gives me too much. Also, she usually adds ramen noodles to this dish (and the other one), but this time I asked her not to.
But I still got a huge blood sugar spike! A friend of mine thinks maybe she puts sugar in the stew, but that has never once occurred to me. I don’t know if sugar is a common ingredient, but it doesn’t seem like it would be.
Kimchi stew (김치찌개) actually seems like a good candidate for a “safe” thing to eat. It’s salty, but for the most part, it’s just vegetables and a little pork.
I really like this lady’s food, so I’ll try this one more time. I’ll also order the same thing from a different restaurant (where the portion will surely be a lot smaller) and see what happens.

It raised my blood sugar too! And all I ate with it was tofu. Made the jjigae myself. My coworker told me cooked cabbage is high in sugar 😫
It’s strange … since this test, I’ve eaten kimchi jjigae from the same place, but the results were much better for some reason. And actually, now that I look back on this post, I see that I also ate some japchae (the noodles), and that might have been what caused my blood sugar to climb. As for why you spiked, I can’t really say. Hmm.
