Diabetes-friendly baked goods!

diabetes friendly baked goods chocolate tart zero bakery

It was my birthday a few days ago, and a very kind co-worker hunted down a diabetes-friendly bakery in Seoul!

She got me a chocolate tart and also a “brownie sand,” which is basically a pair of brownies with some kind of cream in the middle.

The chocolate tart was kind of like a piece of chocolate cheesecake, and it was very 맛있다 (delicious).

So what did this chocolate tart do to my blood sugar? Basically nothing!

Blood sugar reading before eating: 99

This was on a Sunday evening, several hours after the last time I’d eaten anything.

Blood sugar reading after eating: 108

So … 99 → 108. That ain’t shit!!

And just to be sure, I did an extra glucose check after another 30 minutes. That one came in at 103, so my blood sugar was on the way back down.

I will update this later on with the brownie sand results. See below!

The bakery these treats came from is called Zero Bakery. They are located pretty close to Jamsil subway station (map).

Despite 19g of carbs (탄수화물), this chocolate tart is very easy on the blood sugar! Sugars (당류) are only 2g.

The brownie sand(wich) was small (less than 50g) but it was good and very chocolaty.

This was at about 1 a.m., several hours after the last time I’d eaten anything. It was the same day I ate the chocolate tart above.

So once again, the blood sugar increase was practically nothing. It’s reasonable to expect that such a small snack wouldn’t do much, but had this been from a “regular” bakery, I’m sure the increase would have been more than 10 mg/dL.

Even pre-diabetes me wasn’t in the habit of eating a lot of sweets and baked goods, but I might have to visit Zero Bakery from time to time. That chocolate tart is worth it!
