Blood sugar reading before eating: 87
This reading of 87 was on a Sunday afternoon after sleeping all day. I hadn’t eaten anything since the night before.
Blood sugar reading after eating: 192
This reading was about an hour after I finished eating the chili. I ate the whole can.
87 → 192 is not bueno. That’s somewhat similar to my blood sugar increase of 101 → 232 after eating a can of Campbell’s Chunky Soup.
Of course, I already have enough cans of Hormel Chili to feed a small army. I bought them long before doing this blood sugar test. I’m going to test it again in the future, perhaps with wheat pasta or something. Chili with pasta is good, even if it’s terrible chili from a can.
My medical professionals recommend waiting 2 – TWO – hours after eating before checking blood sugar. Try that next time and report. As long as you’re doing this, why not check hourly for say 12 or so hours to see exactly when your BS lowers. I’d be interested in knowing.
I’m aware of the recommended two hour wait … in fact, I wrote about that recently! Did your doctor say WHY two hours?
I don’t think I’ll be doing hourly checks for 12 hours, but if you do it yourself, please feel free to come back and comment the results!
